“Yeah, I get it. I just hope they don’t get us!” Lex replied, but was in no mood for Jack’s jokes. He poked his head toward the doorway as far as he could.

“Hey, you!” Lex yelled at some of the natives passing nearby. “I’m talking to you!”

The villagers ignored Lex, continuing on their way with what they had been doing.

“Answer me! Are you deaf!?” Lex bellowed in frustration. “You can’t keep us here! What are you going to do to us? Who do you think you are!?”

“Um, Lex - maybe they’re not answering - because they can’t speak our language.”

“Well, that’s their problem, Jack. But lucky for us, I speak the universal language.”

“Which is?” Jack questioned, wondering just what Lex had in mind.

Lex wolf-whistled at one of the native girls kneeling near the fire, turning the spit roast.

Puckering his lips, Lex’s bizarre behaviour and noises attracted the attention of the girl and she looked at him out of the corner of her eye.

Achieving contact, confident he was making inroads, Lex winked roguishly, blowing her a kiss.

The girl raised an eyebrow dubiously and shifted position, turning her back on Lex.

“Well, I’m impressed. That was effective,” Jack muttered sarcastically.

“Give it time.” Lex protested, his pride knocked. “She’s just playing hard to get. I’ll rely on my charm to get us out of here. You’ll see.”

The clatter of an arrow thudding into the ground by the entrance to the hut startled Lex and Jack, both of them recoiling back further into the interior of their confinement.
